Firstly, many thanks to my friends Reed & Timo for bringing this little masterpiece of a film to my attention & getting its Finnish DVD incarnation for me! :-D

Now for the technical stuff; Reed, who owns both the US (New Yorker Video) & Swedish (which I assume to be identical with this one) editions, did not recommend the former as being a little soft. For comparison purposes, I took the liberty to borrow two screenshots from DVDBeaver's review of the New Yorker edition, and - as you can see below - not only its sharpness is worse, it in fact seems to be standards-converted (notice the ghosting of the man's hand in the 1st shot, or the rim of the other man's white coat in the 2nd (to better illustrate the problem, I "conjured ghosts" ;-) in the Finnish shots by combining two consecutive frames together)):

New Yorker Video (frame ?)

Also, New Yorker zoomed the picture in a bit, perhaps to get rid of the thin black border on the right...?

To be perfectly fair & square, PAN VISION's DVD's got a few (minor) problems of its own - the colorimetry of the feature's video stream changes after the first 200 frames (the Cannes logo) from FCC to ITU-R BT.709, making (at least) my Oppo DV-981HD player freeze for an instant of time. And - I know I'm being too picky - the "Alternative scenes" menu items "The Magician" & "The Scaffold" are linked to the wrong video title sets. One last thing that puzzles me is that there's a subtitle menu in both Swedish & Finnish menus, but there's none in the English one...
